Talking Book Productions Helps BBC Audiobooks America Win Prestigious Awards

Audie Award TBP is honored to announce that the audio production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Roots: The Saga of an American Family, by Alex Haley, narrated by Avery Brooks, produced and directed by TBP, and published by BBC Audiobooks America, received the 2008 Audie® Award in the non-fiction category. The Audie® Awards, presented by the Audio Publishers Association (APA), are the only awards covering audiobooks, recognizing the best titles across many different genres and celebrating industry trailblazers. "It's an honor to be recognized among so many outstanding audiobooks," said Lou Gutierrez, Director, Talking Book Productions. "The Audies® are the highest honor you can receive in this industry, and we couldn't be more excited." For a complete list of winners, visit www.theaudies.com. Talking Book Productions Awarded Online Educational Software Development Grant

TBP has won a U.S. Department of Education National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) grant for the research and development of the Universal eLearner platform. The three-year grant will utilize and expand content from Pearson Digital Learning’s KnowledgeBox®, a standards-based digital learning system. This award-winning content will be augmented with additional text and audio, making the lessons accessible to a larger universe of learners, including English language learners and learning disabled, blind/low vision, and hearing impaired students.

"We are honored to be included in this important research," said Jack Lynch, President of Pearson Digital Learning. "Pearson believes in the importance of universal accessibility, and we are pleased to contribute to research that will help better understand how to meet the diverse needs of today's classrooms."

The Universal e-Learner is an online supplemental learning tool that offers audio-described video content, additional audio content, additional enhanced text, and text at lower reading levels. The e-Learner also provides a fully accessible organizer for school schedules. The model seeks to include the maximum number of students in each learning activity.
